Tyler Herro Believes He Already Earned An All-Star Selection
The Miami Heat shooting guard is averaging a career-high 24.2 points this season
This NBA season has been full of unexpected performances. Although many star players are picking up from where they left off last year, some have expanded their games in huge ways.
Tyler Herro, the shooting guard for the Miami Heat, is one of them.
On Monday, the league awarded the Eastern Conference Player of the Week honor to Herro, marking the first time he received this award. He certainly earned it considering the huge scoring outbursts he had last week. From Dec. 1 to 7, he averaged 26.4 points, including three games with 30-plus points. Along with that, he turned it averages of 5.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.0 steals.
After being given the prize, Herro recently told Miami Herald that he deserves to earn his first All-Star selection.
“I would love to be an All-Star. That’s been my goal since I came into the league. We’ll see. I got to get votes. I’m definitely worthy, though.” - Tyler Herro
The Heat, who are currently 12-10, haven’t gotten much consistent production from it’s roster. However, Herro was able to carry them with his career performances. He is averaging a team-best and career-high 24.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and a career-high 5.0 assists.
Though the season just began, he has already turned in five games with 30-plus points. However, his best scoring display came on Nov. 12. During an overtime loss to the Detroit Pistons, he scored a season-high 40 points which included 10 3-pointers.
If Herro does get named an All-Star this year, he will become just the 11th player in Heat history to be earn the selection. He will join Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Alonzo Mourning, LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Hardaway, Anthony Mason, Goran Dragic, Jimmy Butler, and Bam Adebayo.
Considering that the league has a wide range of talented guards, it might be difficult for Herro to get the All-Star nod. Regardless, his numbers definitely support his case.
