The Los Angeles Lakers Have Been Watching Power Forward Jerami Grant
NBA reporter Jake Fischer said Grant is on the Lakers' radar
The Los Angeles Lakers have always been a franchise known to be active in offseasons. Aside from the selections of rookies Bronny James and Dalton Knecht, they have been fairly quiet during this one. Nevertheless, they are still keeping tabs on certain players around the NBA.
On a recent episode of Vincent Goodwill’s Good Word with Goodwill podcast, NBA reporter Jake Fischer said the Lakers have been watching Portland Trail Blazers power forward Jerami Grant.
“To my knowledge, he [Jerami Grant] is someone that’s been on the radar.” - Jake Fischer
After spending the 2022–23 season with the Trail Blazers, Grant re-signed with them in July 2023 on a five-year contract that includes a player option in 2027.
Throughout the two years he spent in Portland, he averaged a combined 20.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. He even shot the ball at a high clip, completing 46.3% of his field goal attempts and 40.2% of his 3-point attempts. The 2023-24 campaign was his best one, as he logged in an average of 21 points per contest, including a career-high 49 points on Feb. 8.
The Lakers could utilize Grant’s 3-point shooting skills
Given that the Lakers are able to acquire Grant via trade, it could pay off well.
Even though point guard D’Angelo Russell intends to opt into his final year with the Lakers, there’s still a chance he could be traded. In the condition that happens, they will lose one of their best 3-point shooters. Grant, who made a total of 255 3-pointers in the last two years combined, could help Los Angeles in that area.
If Grant continues to remain on the Lakers’ radar, there’s a possibility a trade could take place in the near future.
