The Los Angeles Clippers Are Favorites To Sign Kyle Lowry This Offseason
According to Bovada, the Clippers are +180 favorites to acquire the point guard
With this NBA season officially over, there are many teams ready to prepare their rosters for the next one.
The Los Angeles Clippers are one of the teams expected to stay busy this offseason. Not only are they in danger of losing Paul George but backup point guard, Russell Westbrook, could also be heading out. If the latter is true, it leaves a spot on the bench that needs to be filled. According to online sportsbook Bovada, the Clippers are already +180 favorites to sign point guard Kyle Lowry.
Although his best days were the Toronto Raptors, he still has a little bit of gas left in his tank. During the past three years when he played for the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers, he put up decent numbers. He averaged 10.9 points a game, along with 3.9 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.0 steals. He even showed that he can still keep his range extended as he shot 37% from behind the 3-point line.
Lowry could be a great piece off the bench for the Clippers
Los Angeles would be taking a big hit by losing Westbrook but Lowry can still contribute in a multiple of ways.
The obvious one would be his playmaking abilities. This year, Lowry made it a point to get his teammates involved. In the 60 games he played, he attempted 2,743 passes with 245 of them leading to assists. He finished the season with averages of 4.2 assists and only 1.4 turnovers.
Just like Westbrook, Lowry is one of the few guards who aren’t afraid to crash through big men in the paint. Throughout the last four seasons, Lowry has averaged 29.1 drives a game and collected a total of 614 points off of them. When he isn’t scoring in those instances, he’s quickly dishing the ball out to his teammates for better looks.
He can also be helpful in spacing out the floor with his 3-point shooting. This season, he took 250 3-pointers and connected on 39.2% of them, most of them being in catch-and-shoot situations.
Despite being 38 years old, Lowry can still hold value as a backup guard.
