The Golden State Warriors Could Target Brook Lopez This Summer
The Warriors might look to acquire a traditional center this offseason
On Wednesday, the Golden State Warriors lost Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves, losing the series 4-1.
With the Warriors’ season now over, there are many concerns about their current roster, particularly at the center position.
On a recent episode of ESPN’s NBA Today, NBA insider Bobby Marks said the Warriors might target Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez.
"I think the one name to keep an eye on regarding that center position is Brook Lopez.” - Bobby Marks
The Warriors, who finished with a 48-34 record, had an interesting season.
Although Golden State acquired superstar Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat, the starting lineup still varied. For the majority of the season, Draymond Green obtained the center position. However, there were some instances where Trayce Jackson-Davis would take the spot, moving Green to the power forward.
Lopez might be a decent piece for the Warriors
Currently, Lopez is concluding his two-year contract with the Bucks. This summer, he will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.
While in Milwaukee, Lopez played some of his best basketball. During his seven-year tenure with them, he averaged 13.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks. He also expanded his shooting range, shooting 35.7% from the 3-point line.
The Warriors could largely value Lopez.
Throughout his career, he established himself as a center who can be an elite rim-protector, all while having the ability to hit 3-pointers. If the Warriors are able to grab him this offseason, it could work out.
