Donte DiVincenzo's Offensive Game Could Play A Huge Part In Free Agency
Donte DiVincenzo is developing into an all-around guard
According to ESPN, shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo has declined the $4.7 million player option he had with the Golden State Warriors, making him a free agent this offseason.
Quite frankly, it was pretty much expected, considering the amount of talent he possess.
DiVincenzo has an amazing offensive game. Even though he can have his slumps here and there, he can come off the bench and score the basket in so many ways. This season, he averaged nine points on great shooting. He shot 43 percent from the field and a career-high 39 percent from the 3-point line. He can even make cuts to the basket for some quick points in the paint, even though that’s not his speciality.
But it’s not just his scoring that’s impressive.
DiVincenzo can run the offense in great ways, particularly on the break. His good handles with the ball allows him to drive the basket for points and even kick-outs. His ability to break down defensive schemes also allows him to make plays and get his teammates involved.
As for defense, he contributes to that, as well. Not only does he average one steal for his career but he’s good at contesting his opponent’s shots, especially beyond the arc.
DiVincenzo is the ideal guard every team would like to attain in this era and they know it. The New York Knicks have already expressed interest in the 26-year-old.
This season, the Knicks were 19th in 3-point shooting and 28th in assists per game. Acquiring DiVincenzo could help them but they will need to make some moves. Immanuel Quickley is already demanding a huge contract and with Miles McBride entering free agency, the only move that makes sense is having DiVincenzo as a backup point guard.
With what he has to offer, more teams could quickly pile up for a chance to sign DiVincenzo.
Free agency starts on Jul. 1
